NBA 2K19 review for Xbox One

I recently just got an Xbox One bundle with NBA 2K19. I have been playing for about 2 weeks. Started a Season with my favorite team the Chicago Bulls. Currently 8-0 mostly playing on rookie. It is a big adjustment from 2K14 (Xbox 360) from shot timing, control changes, training.

The graphics is gorgeous, fairly realistic, the detail is great, you look at the crowd and it’s not that easy to find a duplicate fan. I have found a few duplicates here and there but they have different clothes on. It is amazing to see how much is going on. Everyone is moving about, the crowd, the players, referees, camera men, cheer leaders are all moving independently.

I love the pregame and half time show with Shaq, Earnie and Kenny the Jet, it’s hilarious just like they are in real life.

The training could use some improvement because they only show you what you have to do in order to execute a move, but you cannot try to perform the move while seeing the instruction, which means you have to memorize all the movies in order to be able to perform them all.

PlayingJoel Embiid defense seems to be a lot easier in this game than previous versions. Much easier to steal and block and even rebound. In 2K14 it was a real challenge to get rebounds, steals and blocks. There were also a few moves that were almost guaranteed to score such as the hop step and the up and under in the post. It looks like 2K has taken away the automatic scoring moves. The game is also much smoother. The most noticeable being that you can easily get in and out of post defense and offense. In 2K14 is easy to get stuck in a post defense or offense position.

Playing my career is fun. I enjoy the cinematic movies and story lines. There’s a little bit of love, comedy and a pretty good story line with mini games in between. You work your way up as a created player from G League to China to the NBA. You get to see what it’s like as a professional player in the NBA, practice, inside the locker room as well as walk around the neighborhood where you can see pick up games being played by real players (not NPC’s). Your character has your own place, your own basketball court, you can go shopping around for clothes, do a little of gambling, spin the wheel etc. In my opinion, my career is the best option to play in the game. It is much intriguing and engaging than the other options.

Black top is a lot of fun if your using players with good ball handling like Kyrie Irving, the street ball cross overs come out and it’s a joy to perform and watch. There are fans in the bleachers, one thing I don’t like is that they call ticky tack fouls that should be allowed in a street ball game. You can play 1vs1, 2vs2, 3vs3, 4vs4 and 5vs5. I rather just stick to 5vs5 although 1vs1 can be fun to take someone you don’t like to school.

There is also the, my Team mode, where you start off with a set of seemingly random players from old eras all the way to the current era. As you advance, in the season you get cards/new Players. Each player is has a rating up to 100 I believe. The new player you acquire might be higher or lower than the current players on your roster. The set up is eerily similar to NBA Live, NBA 2K’s rival. NBA Live has been around longer, I remember playing it back in intermediate for super Nintendo.

Greatest Chicago Bulls Players ever

The Play Now mode, you immediately get to play either against the computer or a friend. You can choose from the current teams, Team Lebron, Team Curry (All Stars), classic teams like the 07-08 Boston Celtics or the 70-71 LA Lakers and then there’s the All time best teams that feature the best players to ever play each position for all the teams in the NBA. For my favorite team the Chicago Bulls, the starting 5 is Derrick Rose, Michael Jordan, Scottie Pippen, Dennis Rodman and Artis Gilmore at center. Off the bench there’s Jimmy Butler, Jerry Sloan, Bob Love, Joakim Noah, Luol Deng, B.J. Armstrong, Tony Kukoc and Horace Grant. Very intriguing rosters indeed.

Overall I give this game a 9.5/10 for graphics, 9.2/10 for fun, 8.2/10 for controls, 9.8/10 for replay ability.

If you like the NBA 2K serious this is definitely a must have to add to your collection or even if your a hardcore NBA fan, I highly recommend getting a copy of NBA 2K19!
